X-Rays: Do You Really Need Them?

“Dr. Rimes, do you really need to take dental x-rays?” We hear this question everyday in our office, and the answer is YES!!! Dental x-rays are important in assuring the best overall dental health.

Here are the top 4 reasons to take dental x-rays:

  1. We look for decay between the teeth

It is not always visible to the naked eye, but many dental problems occur between the teeth, where plaque and bacteria can grow somewhat unhindered by the tooth brush.

  2. We check for bone loss

Bone loss is the number one cause of tooth loss. This is called periodontal disease.

  3. We look for infections under the gums

Even if you don’t have pain, we can see infections at the root tips

  4. We examine the area for cysts/tumors

We want to be pro-active in recognizing any serious condition
